What’s the difference between wall mounted and floor standing closet systems?

Wall mounted closet systems are just what they sound like, mounted to the wall. Typically we install a metal bar into the studs in the wall and the shelves hang from those bars. With wall mounted systems, the weight limit is dependent on the walls that the unit is hanging from and will typically be lower than floor standing models. Wall mount closet systems will also typically have a bit of a gap between the ceiling and the floor, which can make cleaning easier. Wall mount are generally less expensive than floor standing units.

Floor standing closet systems sit on the floor and are attached to the wall so that they do not tip over. The floor to ceiling installation creates a finishes, custom look for your closets and have more options for finishing touches such as trim. Floor standing units can be more expensive than wall mount, however you are able to adjust shelves within the units more easily, and typically have higher weight limits for them due to the weight being mostly on the floor and not the wall. Floor standing systems will have more of the functionality of a piece of furniture that can be truly customized to your liking.

How can I utilize the corners of my closet?

Believe it or not, when properly used, the corners of your closet offer up a lot of storage space. Here are some ideas for your corners!

Shelve it: By running shelves from both sides into the corner, you create deep storage corners. If there are items that you use less often, these little nooks are ideal.

Hanging and shelves: By running a hanging bar from one side all the way to the corner, and a shelving unit on the other side, but about 24” away from the corner, you can hang items all the way to the wall, then continue storage on the other side, giving you plenty of storage.

Corner carousel: Create a turning carousel in the corner of your closet but installing a 360° rotating hanging rack or shelves. This can be ideal for hanging ties and scarves, accessories, or even for shoes.

We hope these tips will give you some ideas for creating your ideal custom closet! No matter what your style is, we can find solutions to give you the customized storage you need.
